Invitation to our next online 9×9 course
Our upcoming online course will run for 9 weeks from May 16th to July 9th, 2023. We have classes available for various skill levels ranging from 20Kyu to 5Dan, and instruction is offered primarily in English. However, if there are at least 5 participants with a similar rank who prefer instruction in another language, we can also offer classes in German, French, Ukrainian, Italian, Czech, Romanian, or other languages. The 9 weeks training course lasts 9 weeks. As for Go Schools in Asia, each week the course is composed of:
* 1 serious league game
* Daily Tsumego
* One lesson
* A summary handout/videoA serious league game
Playing games is utmost important to practice your skills. Before the tournament, the pairings will be arranged and posted in a Google document. Please provide your results directly there. Your teacher will inform you of who you’ll be playing against. All games will be played without handicap, unless specified otherwise. You should make Nigiri. The game will have a time limit of 45 minutes, with 3×30 seconds Byoyomi, and 6.5 Komi. The games will be played on the default day, which will be determined beforehand. However, you are free to arrange another day with your opponent. It’s necessary to send your game to your teacher at least 24 hours before the lesson. The games will take place on OGS or KGS in Room JIGS (found under Teaching Rooms).
Daily Tsumego
By doing daily Tsumego, you can improve your reading, focus, and fighting skills, which most strong Go players consider to be the most crucial element in becoming strong. You can find a Tsumego channel on Telegram, which is exclusively for you and your Tsumego teacher. It is recommended that you spend at least 10 minutes each day on Tsumego (although you are welcome to spend more time, and your teacher will be pleased to see your progress).
The lesson
Your weekly class will involve meeting with your teacher, who has already reviewed your games and will provide you with around 20 minutes of instruction on new theoretical concepts at the beginning of the class. The remaining time will be spent briefly reviewing your games. You will be asked to identify any new theoretical concepts that were present in the game and provide commentary on the game yourself.
The class will be held on the JIGS Discord server.
A summary video
Your teacher will create a summary video of the theoretical portion of the class, which typically lasts between 5 and 20 minutes. For adult classes, the entire lesson will be provided via video. To optimize your learning, it is recommended that you watch the video again on day +1, +3, and +6. Additionally, please make a note of the most important concepts on your home Goban.
