Hello everyone,
Last weekend, there was a very enjoyable tournament in Chemnitz. This was the tournament’s first edition. It was held in a games museum, allowing everyone to reminisce about their childhood and the games they used to play. Go was also featured, as shown in the photo gallery below.
The tournament was perfectly organized, everyone received an informational email a few days before the tournament with all the important details. At the venue, there was a generous all-you-can-eat buffet for 15€, which also included Sunday lunch. Additionally, Sunday breakfast was available for 5€. The rounds started more or less on time, and the venue was very pleasant and quiet. We played on the first floor in a separate room, while below us, there was a large space where people gathered to play games with their friends or families.
Overall, 39 participants took part, with several favorites for the tournament, mainly 3d-4d players (and in the end, even a 1d 😊). Before the 5th round, it looked like Manja Marz 4d will get the tournament win as she was the only player with a clean score 4-0. In the final round, she faced her son, Ferdinand Marz, who was having an excellent tournament at 3-1, having already defeated two 3d players. The game was looking good for Manja, but after 2 blunders, she lost the lead and Ferdinand eventually managed to win the game! After 5 rounds, there were 3 players from the top group, who had a score of 4-1. The third one was Kevin Sanow 4d, also a player from Jena.
The final standings due to the additional criteria were as follows:
🥇 Manja Marz 4d
🥈 Kevin Sanow 4d
🥉 Ferdinand Marz 1d -> 2d
Congratulations to all of the players! 👏
Apart from prizes for 1st-3rd place, there were also many other prizes such as U18, best woman, best kyu player etc., which was very nice of the organizers. A big thank you to them! 🙏
