SENKO CUP 2025

Hello everyone, The SENKO CUP 2025 is coming! This tournament is the World Women’s Go Championship and will take place from March 14th to 16th in Tokyo, Japan. 🇯🇵 🏆

The SENKO CUP features two sections: Professional and Amateur. In both sections, there are 8 players, who will play in a knockout system. The professional section includes some of the world’s top female players Choi Jeong 9p 🇰🇷, Ueno Asami 6p 🇯🇵, Fujisawa Rina 7p 🇯🇵, and Tang Jiawen 6p 🇨🇳 among others. A young wildcard player from Vietnam, Quynh Anh Ha 6d 🇻🇳, is also competing. She won last year’s edition of the amateur section. This promises to be an exciting tournament, with a large prize pool and a world title at stake. The winner of the professional section will receive 10 million yen (~62,000 EUR).

In the amateur section, our teacher Manja Marz 4d 🇩🇪 will be one of the European representatives. She finished 2nd in the last European Women’s Championship. Two more European representatives are Olesia Malko 4d 🇺🇦 and Rita Poscai 5d 🇭🇺, who finished 3rd and 4th in the last championship. Olesia also won the European U18 Youth Championship this weekend in Romania – BIG congratulations to her! 👏 They will compete against representatives from the US 🇺🇸, Australia 🇦🇺 (winner from 2 years ago), Singapore 🇸🇬, Thailand 🇹🇭, and Malaysia 🇲🇾. The amateur section takes place on a single day, March 14th, with all three rounds—starting from the quarterfinals—being played.

The first round of the amateur tournament will be played at 10:00 Japanese time (2:00 CET), the second round at 13:00 Japanese time (5:00 CET), and the final at 15:30 Japanese time (7:30 CET).
